West London Orbital

A new railway for West London, connecting the sub-region's major centres, has recently been given the green light by TfL. WestTrans will be working alongside key partners to deliver projects as part of this orbital railway in the coming years.

The West London Orbital will be an extension to the London Overground network, and will run for approximately 11 miles from Hendon and West Hampstead to Hounslow, via Brent Cross West, Neasden, Harlesden, Old Oak Common, Acton and Brentford. It is composed entirely of existing freight and passenger lines, including the Dudding Hill line and the Hounslow loop.

The roue would boost orbital connectivity in North and West London, unlocking potential for new jobs and homes, and connecting to existing rail infrastructure including the Jubilee and Piccadilly lines,  Crossrail and HS2.

The WLO featured in the Mayor's Transport Strategy and has been agreed as a shared strategic infrastructure priority for the West London boroughs. Discussions are now underway between London government and the borough on the future of the scheme.
