E-bike trial kicks off at Hounslow
WestTrans' electric bike trial began at Hounslow Council on Monday 11th June, the start of national Bike Week.
The trial, which will last until June 2019, sees two electric bikes integrated into the pool of hire bikes at Hounlow Civic Centre. The bikes are for Council staff to use for commuting to work, site visits, and other journeys around the borough. Hounslow have provided helmets and secure cycle storage, and WestTrans have funded the bikes, along with lights, racks and secure locks.
The bikes are fitted with GPS tracking units, which anonymously upload their route data to a cloud server. WestTrans will be analysing the data at the end of the trial to answer two key questions: what role can e-bikes play in the shift to active travel, and what journeys do people use them for?

We look forward to seeing Hounslow staff using the e-bike for their journeys, and seeing the final results of the trial.
