Brunel Santander Cycles launch

15/03/2019

Since 2016 our Healthy Campus Champions, Jess and Max, have been working with Brunel University London to embed a cycling culture on campus and improve active travel for students. In 2017 they worked incredibly hard on a crowdfunding campaign for Santander, raising over £86,000, and were chosen as the winners, gaining £100,000 in match funding. Since then they've been collaborating with the teams at Brunel, Santander and Nextbike to make the cycle scheme a reality.

Today was the culmination of all this work: the official launch of the Brunel Santander Cycle scheme. 50 bikes are spread across five docking stations, located at Uxbridge High Street, Hillingdon Hospital, and three sites on Brunel's campus. The scheme has been running since 1st March, and has seen over 2,000 bike hires in its first two weeks - the most successful Nextbike scheme in the UK and a fantastic achievement for West London.

The launch was well-attended and was a great opportunity to showcase the determination of all involved to bring a cycle scheme to Uxbridge. We at WestTrans are proud of the role we played in this project and the many partners who brought it to fruition. We also want to give huge thanks to Jess (pictured below), who is now moving to a role at Nextbike - we wish her all the best for the future.
