Projects 2016-2017
2016/17 saw WestTrans make progress in all of our key areas of endeavour.
Sudbury Hill Major Scheme
A scheme of redevelopment at Sudbury Hill made good progress this year. First identified as an important area in 2013, the project aims to rebalance 'movement' and 'place' priorities in order to facilitate better pedestrian and cycle routes and access to the stations within this forgotten area of West London.
Through our assessment of the study area we established that there are significant issues including:
oTraffic dominance
oParking and servicing
oPoor accessibility
oStreet clutter
oStation wayfinding
oInadequate bus facilities
oPoor road alignment and allocation of space for pedestrians and cyclists.
Through a series of interventions such as the realignment of the carriageways, rationalisation of parking, and relocation of bus stops, we are enabling a greater sense of place, ease congestion and improve access for all users. The Major Scheme is helping to provide a catalyst for engaging with Network Rail and London Buses to improve rail and bus services, and the potential for station improvements including step-free access in the longer term.

- We produced Cycle Parking Guidance for West London (.pdf, 1Mb) and undertook inspections of developments to ensure compliance with this guidance.

- University Cycle Champions project. We recruited a Cycle Champion, working with the London Cycling Campaign, to work at Brunel University in Uxbridge to help more students cycle and walk to campus. This was a big success, and managed to raise over £180,000 in funding for cycling facilities.
